A bit about this painting:This painting is from Newborough Beach early in the morning looking out over the mountain range on the mainland. After moving to Anglesey in 2020 with my wife (Jo) we quickly discovered this fantastic place. From our first visit, it became a very special place for us and we have spent many an occasion getting lost in the woods and spending hours strolling along the expansive sands.Description:Limited Edition (1 in 150) Signed Fine Art Print by Kenneth Weir. A bit about this painting:So as a birthday gift to myself I bought a Plein Air easel. Mad as it is, I didn’t have one and to paint outside it certainly is a must. So on the first nice day (which happened to be my birthday), Gaz and myself shot down to Newborough Beach and set up. This is the scene that we were presented with. I blocked it in on location and took the painting back home. After it sitting aside for a few days, I decided it needed a bit more interest in the foreground, so for a b...

A bit about this painting:This painting is of a scene I captured in a photograph of the lighthouse on Ynys Landdwyn. It was captured around mid morning in winter, with low light off to the south east (left). This scene is very famous and there are lots of photographs taken from similar locations. This was the first time I had visited it and as luck has it, we got a spectacular day (and low tide). The light was perfect, skipping over the headland and hitting the side of the lighthouse. This is ...

A bit about this painting:This painting is of a scene looking South over the Malltraeth Estuary mid-morning in winter. It was a cold frosty morning and there was very little light on the foreground, really just some reflections in the water. The sky was 'epic', with the sun breaking through to the left and lighting up the horizon. There was a solid band of clouds over the horizon as well as a sprawling expanse ever upwards. It was quite something. In this painting, I worked to build the depth...

A bit about this painting:This painting is of a scene looking through the wooded area on the approach to Traeth Llanddwyn, Newborough (also known as Newborough Beach). Unlike many other beaches where these is often a very clear of the beach as you approach it, at Traeth Llanddwyn you need to walk through this wooded area (pine trees) before you drop down on the beach. It might sound strange but there is always a sense of excitement as you anticipate the view you will be greeted with once you ...

A bit about this painting:This painting is of a scene I captured in a photograph of the Trwyn Du lighthouse at Penmon. It was captured early in the morning, with low light off to the south east (right). The light although nice, was not truly spectacular, but there was more than enough going on in the sky and with the crashing waves to make it a scene I really wanted to paint. I tried to capture the moody nature with the menacing clouds and the lack of light on the rocks. Some interesting facts...

A bit about this painting:This painting is of a view from Betwys-yn-Rhos with the Snowdon mountain range in the background. The reference photo that I based this on was kindly provided by Josh Parry. Josh took this picture in the evening as the sun was dropping. The scene almost looks like it is from Tuscany, with idyllic rolling hills in the mid ground and a golden blanket of light illuminating the whole landscape.Although the painting largely reflects the reference photograph from Josh, I d...

A bit about this painting:This painting is of a view from the top of Snowdon, Snowdonia National Park. The reference photo that I based this on was kindly provided by Zoe (@mymagicmomentos) and depicts a stunning view looking down into the valley.Typically, I paint mountain scenes from a lower elevation, looking up to the subject, so this one was a bit different and presented a different technical challenge. Additionally a lot of the scene is in darkness due to the low light. Overall I am ver...

A bit about this painting:This painting is of a view just off the Pyg Track (also called Pig Track), Snowdonia National Park. The reference photo that I based this on was kindly provided by Zoe (@mymagicmomentos) and depicts a stunning view looking down the valley with the setting sun illuminating the hillside on the left.Although generally I enjoy all my paintings, this was particularly enjoyable. As soon as I sketched in the composition and blocked in the values, I had a great buzz about th...

A bit about this painting:After COVID 'stay at home' restrictions were lifted, my wife and I were able to head over the bridge and get into the hills in the Snowdonia National Park. After an incredible trail run there on the first occasion, I knew I wanted to get back for a painting, so the following week, I was up there for a bit of 'plein air' painting. It was a fantastic experience just sitting out there in nature painting away. The light did change quite a bit, but on the whole the condit...

A bit about this painting:My wife and I are blessed to be living in Menai Bridge, which is a cute village just across the Menai Strait from mainland Wales. There are two iconic bridges which span across the strait, firstly Thomas Telford's Menai Suspension Bridge which was completed in 1826 and secondly just a mile or so away, Robert Stevenson's Britannia Bridge completed in 1850. This painting focuses on the later, the Britannia Bridge.I often walk from my house down to the Menai strait and ...

A bit about this painting:Shortly after regional COVID travel restrictions were relaxed, I took the opportunity and a break in the weather to get over the bridge from Anglesey to the mainland. I had seen lots of photographs of Tryfan, but never visited it myself. So with the sun high in the sky on a perfect spring day, I went to check out the beautiful mountain. It did not disappoint. I parked the van at the Gwern Gof Isaf campsite, found a nice elevated spot and set up the easel. I was able ...

A bit about this painting:My wife and I are very fortunate to live so close to Traeth Coch, a beach which lies between the villages of Pentraeth and Benllech. This beach is truly spectacular and rightly a top spot to visit on Anglesey. At low tide the beach grows into massive expanse of sand right across the bay. After visiting this beach earlier in the year, I knew I wanted to paint it. Of particular interest is a prominent 'Castell Mawr', a Carboniferous Limestone and Sandstone outcrop whic...
