BEHIND THE BRAND
There is Welsh clothing made for tourists. There is replica kit made for matchday. There is everything else. And then there is this.
Wales has an identity worth wearing properly. That is why Made in Cymru exists.
Not replica kit. Not a dragon on a cheap hoodie. Not the same tired designs that have been on Welsh shelves for thirty years. Something rooted in what Wales actually is. The history, the sport, the culture, the moments that shaped a country and the people who carry it with them wherever they go.
That is the whole brand. Everything else is detail.
How it started
A Welsh marketplace, built during Covid.
The idea came during Covid. Wales was shut, the world was quiet, and there was time to think.
The plan was straightforward. Build a marketplace where Welsh sellers could be found. One place for everything made in Wales.
What happened next was unexpected. Within a few years, over 500 independent Welsh businesses had signed up. Clothing makers, jewellers, breweries, toy makers. If it was made in Wales, it had a home. It became something real. A genuine Welsh community built from nothing during one of the strangest periods any of us can remember.
Then it got hard.
It was hard to sustain. The interest came faster than the infrastructure could keep up with. Building the platform quickly cost money. Managing it became a full time job. Eventually the performance suffered.
Closing it down felt like failure. Something built from nothing, and then gone. That stung.
But Made in Cymru was never just the marketplace. It was always the idea behind it. And that idea was not going anywhere.
But I was never walking away from Made in Cymru.
It was part of me by then.
The pivot
Welsh identity clothing. Designed with purpose.
The marketplace is gone. The name, the passion and the reason it existed in the first place are not.
This is something different now. Original Welsh identity clothing rooted in Welsh history, culture and sport. Designs that start with a real moment, a real year, a real piece of what Wales is. The 1881 tee. The Yma O Hyd hoodie. The Red Wall. The Class of 2016. Each one exists because something actually happened.
That was always the standard. It just took a while to get here.
For the ones that count.
Some of these designs will not mean much to everyone. That is fine. They are not for everyone.
They are for the person who follows every Welsh team, home and away. The one who feels every win and every loss. The one who knows the history and carries it with them whether they live in Wales or not.
The diaspora in London, Manchester, New York, Sydney who wants Wales on their back in a way that means something. The rugby fan who knows what 1881 refers to without being told. The football fan who was in the away end in Paris or Toulouse and wants to carry that summer with them.
For the ones that know. That has always been the line. It always will be.
